Can the police track you down through a text message?

if you send a text message to someone saying i am going to kill somebody tonight...can the police get that through the phone provider and track you down through your number?

  1. actually they can track your phone but if you ditch your phone or if you have a sim card u ditch it somewhere there SOL on finding you but yup they can otherwise


  2. Oh yeah. They can track you down to the point where you were standing at the moment you sent the text message depending on how close you were to a communication tower. This is the stuff that we the public do know, now imagine all the ways they might have to track us down that we're not even aware of, scary thought.

  3. yes they can do that. its very simple if you think about it - the police have your phone number, all they have to do is ask at&t or whatever provider to check up their database, and they could have your name (and if they know who you are then the police have their own database of addresses...)
