Can the ps3 play ps2 games if so why wont my ps3 play ps2 games?

  1. is it a 40 gb? 40 gb does not have backwards compatibility. if its really that big of a problem, just play your ps2 games on your ps2


  2. Because only the 20GB, 60GB, and the original 80GB versions can play PS2 games.  The 40GB version and the new 80GB version that's coming out in September cannot.  Sony did this so they could sell them at a cheaper price.  I'm guessing you bought the 40GB.

  3. some can.  

    IIRC there's a model of PS3 out there that doesn't have the emulator to play PS2 games. you should check your documentation to see if your unit is one of those that isn't backwards compatible


  4. some games arent backwards compatible if not go to best buy or somewhere to fix it
