Basically I'm what they consider to be "truant".I was doing online school early this school year but I moved homes and forgot to notify them so I got dropped from my online courses.Ever since then I haven't been attending school(since november) I'm fifteen (almost sixteen in February).I was planning on going back to public school this month but turns out I'm zoned for a school I'd hate to attend again(I've been there before and I was threathend to the point i had to switch schools)So my question is can the school district deny the form because of my truancy?

By the way I live in Nevada.

  1. Does your district offer its own homeschool / independent study program? All 3 of my daughters took advantage of that. If they offer it, you don't have to go to the school you hate usually. A weekly meeting with the district's teacher is enough for them (along with work turned in to prove you were in 'school' all week).

A phone call to the district office will clear it up. Also, if you go through the district they cover most of your expenses like text books, some supplies, computer labs, tutoring..all things you have to pay for yourself if you homeschool apart from the district.

    Best of luck to you.

You may be a semester behind at this point. To catch up, look into taking classes at a community college.

  2. No, they can't.  In Nevada, you are required to notify them, but not for permission - it's so that you are exempted from compulsory attendance laws.  It basically means that truancy doesn't apply to you, since homeschooling can take place anytime, anywhere.

It's also a one-time thing - you don't have to notify them every year.  It's a good idea to notify your new district, but you don't need their permission.

For more info, check out the HSLDA website and click on "In Your State".  Hope that helps!

  3. my advice would be contact the home school legal defense assoc. They know the ins and outs of homeschooling in the USA. There may be a problem the fact you haven't done school for sometime.

  4. Nevada don't give two hoots.  Not even one hoot.

You are SUPPOSED to send them notice and absolve them of all guilt in your education and after that you are on your own.  Not attendence requirement.  General subject requirements only.  No teaching requirements.

But if you end up with no education, don't point a finger beyond yourself and your mom.
