Question:

Can the school do this??

I was told by the registrar of my daughter's school that she is not to attend until her previous school faxes over a 'disciplinary' note (stating she wasn't a problem in school)

Now I hold my Bachelor's in elementary education, I'm not currently teaching, but this doesn't sound like the school had the right to tell me this.

Do they have the right to deny her education until her previous school faxes over this note?

  1. They are most likely within their rights to do so, if she has been in an accredited school before.  I'd take her on over to school, and while you are in the office, call the other school and have them fax over the note.  They are more likely to do it if you are standing there waiting.  They also have the right to make her stay out until you get her vaccination records submitted.  This is not denying her an education.  This is called getting the paperwork needed to protect the other students done.

  2. This doesn't sound right at all.  But... will it be a problem for you to get this note?  If you can, you might just want to bite the bullet and do it.

  3. Complain to the school!
