Can the tv show lie about whether or not the program is live?

A couple of weeks ago when the Jonas Brothers were on So You Think You Can Dance, it said LIVE at the top left of the screen the whole time. But my friend was at a Jonas Brothers concert on the other side of the country, so did they lie about it being live?

It was live in one time zone (probably East). Due to the time difference, unless it is a game or a special event, it can't be live at all zones if it starts at a fix time.

They can and they regularly do. They just show the show with the "Live" caption in the corner which was there when it was recorded.
