I am doing an English project for school.

Despite the fact that he has a slim build, and appears quite weak, he is actually quite strong, and has taken on enemies much larger than him. "BUT" He uses fighting skills and his intelligence, rather than brute force to thwart his enemies evil plans.

Without the commas and the capitals, is the use of the word "but" correct?

  1. Yes I think So

  2. But of course not.

    No, it is grammatically incorrect.

However, you will find it in modern books because nobody gives a d**n about talkin' proper no more. See what I mean?

  3. No- instead of BUT use HOWEVER

  4. You must use the commas and capitals for the word but except if in the middle of the sentence you use no capital. But, you might like to know that you can use other words to make yourself sound more knowing in english. I know this because I did that sort of thing in my english assignment and got and A+. Like excluding, other than, however, although and nevertheless.

  5. No, that is incorrect grammar. Use Instead.

  6.   This  is  a  good  Question !

The  way  I  remember it  is,  the  word   "and"  is  not  as  offensive  when  starting  a  sentence.

A  lot  fancier  is  to  replace  the  word  "  but  "  with  the  phrase ,

              " It's  also  true ..."

  7. But cannot be used as the first word of a sentence . u can use however

  8. No. You can however use the word "However."

  9. You CAN, but you shouldn't.  If it is for a school project, concentrate on using complete sentences.  Put a comma between "him" and "but," rather than a period.

Later, when you are a famous author... you can bend the "rules" for emphasis and style.  For now, though, follow the rules for your grade's sake.
