Question:

Can there be more kittens in there?

My cat has been pregnant for approx. 2months. This is her first litter. Last night she went into labor. She had 4 kittens but none of them made it. They were premature-they had no fur. I am thinking they had to be a week to two weeks early. Anyways, what I am really wondering is....is there a possibility that there is another one in there that will wait till the appropriate time to come out? It kinda feels like there is one more in there but not for sure if it is just her organs. Anyone heard of this?

  1. hi

I am sorry you experienced this. I had a litter of kittens (well, my cat did! Lola) on 21st July, they were premature also (very ltitle fur, slighty see through skin on her paws etc) and one was still born. The other 4 died within a few days, we were syringe feeding them etc but they were too weak to feed/suck. It is so so sad.

I am sorry but I doubt that your cat will have another kitten and if so it would most likely have died by now & would need removing- signs to watch out for mostly would be bleeding in the mum...a small amount of blood is normal but there shouldnt be much.

I truly understand your sadness but i feel you are clutching at straws.

I hope mummy cat is okay.

I think there are 2 'options' , having her spayed so it doesnt happen again will be a popular one on here by other posters but do give her time to recover from the labour and shock...i took Lola today to be spayed (1 month after the birth) and the vet was a little reluctant to do it she said it was a bit too soon but she did agree to do the spay, so despite what anybody on here may say i think she needs to wait at least a month before doing that. Or you could let her 'try again' and hope that she has more luck. That may be controversial- definatly is to say that here! but it is your choice ..i considered allowing Lola to have another litter but i was scared of 'putting her through it' (the trauma physically & emotionally) again, plus our other cat was due any day. Her kittens were born on aug 5th and are doing well!

My sympathies are with you & i hope she will be okay and good luck with whatever you decide.

  2. it is very possible for her to have retained a kitten.  It is also possible that her uterus is just large and in an odd shape that it feels like a kitten is in there.

Since she aborted her kittens, it would probably be a good idea for her to have an exam by a professional and make sure she is in good health and to schedule her spay.  Your vet can tell right away if there are any retained kittens (which btw quickly become toxic and can be deadly to your cat)

  3. sorry of your loss, this can happen.

But hmm, i myself havent heard of that...

I'd wait, see if anymore come out.

  4. mostlikley no but maby u should take her to the vet and get a x-ray
