  1. The only horses that I think can beat Street Sense is Tiago and Curlin. Lawyer Ron is a threat, too. I don't think Awesome Gem or George Washington will put up a huge fight. (They might!) Hard Spun looked pretty good in his last time out beating Street Sense on Polytrack (Not his favorite type of course) STREET SENSE ALL THE WAY!

  2. Can't tell you exactly who will win. But, I really don't think Street Sense will win the BC Classic.  He hasn't done anything very impressive since the Kentucky Derby.  I was at the Travers.  He did win.  But the competition wasn't that strong and he almost lost to Grasshopper.

Then he lost to Hard Spun in a later race.

As for the Classic, I personally like Curlin but there's a lot of talent there and anyone could win.

  3. Street Sense lost the Preakness by a nose, almost lost the Travers, and lost the Kentucky Cup Classic to Hard Spun. I think Street does much better off the pace as a closer. When they run him right off the pace horse he just doesn't seem to be on his best game. If they don't send him up front I think he could win. Curlin is definitely going to be a factor. Lawyer Ron could really show them all up, though. His last race, though, he was a little rank and pulled on the reins all the way around and then lost by a nose to Curlin. I think if they get him settled early in the race, he could beat Curlin and Street Sense. Hard Spun is the only speed in the race, he'll be out front early. I don't think he can sustain that over one a quarter miles with all that talent breathing down his neck in the homestretch.

No one can tell you for sure who will win. You never know, maybe a favorite won't be on his best game the day of the race or he'll run into traffic trouble and get boxed in. This is all a matter of opinion at this point.

  4. Races like the classic, all the horses are good and you can build a case for any of them.  All that it requires is for the favorite to be a little bit of his game to open the door for a longshot.  That said, I do like Street Sense.  Monmouth Park's track consists of good old dirt, and that's the type of surface Street Sense has done his best running on.

  5. I haven't looked at the past performances yet, so I'm not sure about some of the other horses - as far as if there are some front-runners to ensure a fast pace.  If so, Tiago might be a good horse, if the price is right.  He did race on the dirt in the spring at Santa Anita when he won the Santa Anita Derby.  (Santa Anita put in the the artificial surface prior to the current meet.)  Otherwise, I'd side with Lawyer Ron over the 3-yr olds in the race.

By the way, what the heck is George Washington doing back here again?  If I remember correctly, he came into the Classic last year undefeated (from Europe) and didn't even come close.  Not sure where he's raced or which surfaces he's attempted this year, but prior to the last Breeders Cup, he won all of his races on the grass.

I bet a $50 exacta box last year with Bernadini and Invasor...and got $990 back.  I hope my fortunes are as good this year.  (I won't mention my losses on the other races!)

  6. I am truly looking forward to seeing Tiago again! I haven't seen him up close and personal since The Derby only on TV, but he looks like he has filled out and matured. He has performed well out in Cali on the artificial tracks, but I'm not real sure how those performances will translate for running on the dirt! I am keeping my options open on him as a live long shot.
