All the manger said to me was when did you do that to your hair and i was like right after school let out & she was like oh cool. ive been working their for about 3 weeks and on tues someone from corperate came in. & then yeater my friend told me that one of they girls there working to her that the people from corperate didnt like my hair. they said it looked like i worked at Hot topic not limited too. i was pissed and all my manager said was shes nice, shes really good with the customers & when she came into interview she was all preppy. the reason why i dress preppy was b/c the store and i think they are discriminating against me b/c i wasnt dressing preppy. which i dont in real life.

  1. Welcome to the real world, if you want to work for someone then you do what they say and if they have an image that they want to portray then it's your job to portray it, if you don't like it, it's not thier bad luck it's your bad luck

  2. The answers saying it would be illegal for them to fire you for having colored hair are wrong. It is discrimination, but it is LEGAL discrimination. Having dyed hair is not a protected class. Without a contract or union, an employer can fire an employee for any reason or no reason at all. The only reason they would wait for a reason is to avoid paying unemployment, but I doubt you would be eligible yet anyway.

  3. No they cant, but don't do anything else "wrong". If your a good employee with pink hair and they fire you, you get to take them to court. If they only dislike it though, you have to live with it.

  4. All you can do is keep doing your job as best you can. Don' t worry about the hair until they come to you about it. Pink hair is not corporate but you are not in a corporate position. Keep the style neat and maybe pulled back into a ponytail. If they ask you to dye it and you are willing then tell them that or tell them that you won't dye it but are willing to wear a scarf, wig or whatever you're comfortable with to "hide" the hair if you want to keep the hair and the job.

A job can fire you at any time for any reason so don't worry about getting fired. If you're a good employee and follow the rules you'll be OK. If they want you to dress preppy it's the same as the hair, either do it if they ask or don't and leave. The choices are yours.

  5. Keep doing what you were employed to do and do it to the best of your ability.

Each organisation has a code of ethics which may differ

from organisation to organisation. But, nonetheless they are a

set of standards that the staff need to work to.

Now, if it is in the code of ethics that you can't have pink hair

then you are breaching that code of ethics and you can be fired. But, if it is not written into the code of ethics then if they

fire you then they are in breach.

Keep a diary, document on a daily basis how you are being

    treated by this employer.

Judges, magistrates, lawyers, JP s, union people all like to see documentation.

I am a christian and God loves you no matter what the colour

    of your hair is.

God bless you, have a good day.

  6. A company can  have a formal or informal dress code.  If they tell you to conform to it, and fail to do so they can terminate you.

  7. You sound like a good worker who just has a different style than what's expected at work.  Why not get a cool wig for warp fest?

I doubt they'd fire you for anything less than doing a bad job, but you have an opp here to show that you're mature and want to help relieve the pressure from your boss.  Your boss sounds nice, so stick with her.  Nice bosses are hard to find.

  8. if preppy isn't your original style, try working at a less preppy store

  9. Does the company have an employee manual with dress codes etc outlined? If so you may find that they can.

I have worked for companies that have policies on dress codes, body piercing & hair styles.

Why? Because to a business image & first impressions can make or break a business.

If you are serious about having a job then you need to consider what your image says about the company.

To me, someone with pink hair would be perceived as someone who doesn't take work seriously (nor much else in life).

Like it or not, you may find that to succeed where you want to you may need to conform to a blander image.

  10. ow, man mabey you should apply at hot topic, its way cooler than limited too, so, why not, i love hot topic, dude, whyd you even apply, hot topuic is better

  11. if they want to fire you they can. im sure they dont have a union. and the sad thing is, they can fire you and say it is not cuz of your hair and is something else

  12. i'm not sure how old you are but i'm guessing you are around 16.  no, they can't fire you for having dyed hair, since they hired you.  check the employment policy for dress code.  then you will know for sure.  but for future reference, pink hair is not professional unless your career is hot topic or you are a hair dresser.

  13. You know what? It may not seem fair, but in the professional world, the boss can set dress codes and implement policies as he/she feels will best represent the company. It's the way it is. Sorry. If you really cannot bear to part with your hair color, you should find a position where it will not be an issue.

  14. They can fire your for just about anything except your race and religion.  Most likely they are not going to do anything since you have already been working there for a wile and have been doing a great job.  Also since cooperate came in and didn't fire you right away I don't think they will now just weeks later out of the blue.

Keep up your work performance and always be on time and I'm sure they will overlook the hair.  If anything they would most likely ask you to change it before just canning you.  If they ask then you have to decide how important the job is to you. Just remember times are tough, gas is high and the economy is bad.  can you afford to loose the job? Good luck!

  15. Unfortunately, every state in the US except one (and I don't remember which one) has a right to fire you without giving you a reason. It isn't fair, but that is the way it is. Good Luck.

  16. Yes companies do have the right to fire someone or not hire someone if they dont uphold the look they are trying to give to their customers, but of course they most likely wont say this and just wait till you either quit or find a reason to fire you. If you want to keep your job just dye your hair back black.
