Can they just search apt. if told it housed a small amount of weed?

What would the police do if someone told them someone they knew had weed in there apt? Could they just search the apartment?

  Not without a warrant. No, word of mouth would not be good enough to get a warrant, but it would probably set the cops on your tail until they could find enough evidence to obtain a warrant depending on how much weed the rat said you had.

By all means there is a name for it, in the law statutes I forget what its called.It also depends on where you live as well and what the weed is used for is it medicinal purposes? And depending on the source of evidence that may have to get a warrant.

A sworn statement from a witness that an illegal activity is taking place is normally sufficient for a search warrant.

The only exceptions for the need for a warrant is if the officers have personal knowledge of the crime, and/or they have reasonable reason to believe that someone is in danger.
