I built an aviary 1.75m in length and 1.45m wide. And I currently have 3 cockatiels and 3 budgies in one cage and 2 love birds in another. will they get along with each other in the aviary?

  1. Yes for lovebirds and parakeets but i suggest you seperate the cockatiels as they are medium sized birds while parakeets and lovebirds are small sized birds.

  2. I would try the budgies and cockatiels with no breeding boxes but not the lovebirds.

Just watch them for the first few days

  3. I think because they are different breeds they might fight  but maybe you could put them in the avery and see if the do get along maybe have a hose ready so if they do start to fight you could wet them to break them up.

    Hope they do get along!

  4. Hi,

No the aviary is to small, i have kept cockatiels and lovebirds together but always in a 4m by 2m aviary so they have room to escape from each other. I think that the lovebirds would attack the budgies because they are smallest and they would probably end up killing them. So if i was you i wouldn't risk it.

  5. No they will not. Lovebirds are commonly called the pit-bulls of the bird world. They will commonly get along with any other species of birds. While there are exceptions it is not the rule. Budgies and tiels are more mild mannered. They could get along. but personally I would not try it. You could end up with injured birds and many vet bills.

  6. no someone will get killed

  7. I am sorry to tell you but your birds will not get on to-gether.

Out of the three Cockatiels are the most docile, the Budgies come the first aggressor the Lovebirds can be killers in a mixed aviary they will take on anything bigger than them selves

Your best bet is to divide your aviary in to three sections but remember that the section you put the Lovebirds in must have a double dividing wire so as to stop them pecking off the feet  or beaks of their neighbours which ever they may be.

I have bred all three species and you learn by your mistakes,

    So it's a NO NO.
