Question:

Can they prevent me from working in Canada, when I hold a valid work permit?

Hi,

Recently I came to Turkey for vacation from Canada (where I work). Then when I was taking my connecting flight from Germany, they told me that my visa to enter Canada has expired. So I had to go to Ankara/Turkey to apply for a new visa.

I have told everything there is to it and provided copies of letters my company sent by fax that asks them to allow me to come back as I am one of the key programmers there, and it impacts the production.

It has been 2 days, but for me every single day counts so I need the visa urgently.

I am wondering if the embassy can prevent me from going back to Canada and stop me from working there and thus making me lose my job?

Thanks.

  1. Technically, yes, the Embassy can always deny you entry into Canada.  Ultimately, the government, not your company, has the final say if you can enter the county.

  2. Since it is their country and you are a guest there, they can do as they please.

  3. contact the canadaian govt at www.canada.gc.ca see dept of foreign affairs. you may have violated a rule and having a work permit does not allow you the legal right to reenter just as a legal perm landed immigrant would.

www.canada.gc.ca for the laws go to www.canlii.org  good luck.
