I got a no insurance ticket SEVEN years ago in Kansas while I was traveling through on vacation. I never dealt with it and completely forogt I ever even went through Kansas at that. I live in Texas, and they sent me a notice I had a warrant in the mail. I hired a attorney to deal with it for me because I CANNOT leave my kids and animals and travel all the way to Kansas to deal with it. But he says I have to come give finger prints and pay small fine. I just can't leave for that long though. It would take at least 3 days to get there, deal with it, and come back. I have 2 babies, and feed baby animals every 2 hours. No way I can go. Can they come and get me and take me to Kansas for this ticket if I don't do anything about it???

  1. they can but they wont

  2. You might not get arrested, but your Texas driver's license will be suspended until you take care of the Kansas Issue.

  3. Can they?  Yes

Will they?  No, it is not worth it.  But they will put out an active warrant for your arrest.  That means that if you ever get within their jurisdiction again, off to jail you go.

For such a simple charge, your lawyer should have been able to handle the whole thing through the mail.  If they need your prints, then they should be able to arrainge to have your local police force take the prints for them.

  4. Yes.  That is the thing about crimes and criminal penalties.  They tend to be inconvenient.  On purpose.  You can make arrangements to meet your other responsibilities while you take care of the crime you committed, or you can wait until the warrant gets executed and you end up in jail with no opportunity to make arrangements.  Then, the kids spend some time in the care of the state and the animals get destroyed.  In all likeihood, once you get arrested, after a couple days then Kansas will decline to extradict and they will let you go and give the kids back, but the warrant will stay in the system until the next time you have dealings with a cop.  Then they will do it all again.

One facing a criminal penalty, even a small one, does not get to decide if it is convenient or not.  In fact, those who find it inconvenient to go to prison often get shot when they decide to leave.  That is the nature of a criminal penalty.  I recommend you hire someone to help you out for a couple days and you get on a plane to Kansas.
