Can anyone tell by the product details? The white works great for my room right NOW....but later on when I move it to my new house I might want to stain it to match the flooring better...

Any staining knowledge or opinions would help!

Thanks!

  1. I don't think it's stained; the pictures look like paint.  I have the feeling it's plywood with molding applied.  My guess is you could paint it another color, but not stain it.

  2. Underneath, this piece is most likely MDF -- a type of fiberboard.  Think particle board with finer pieces.   If parts of it are not, they're likely to be any type and mixture of fine-textured weed woods. The best you might be able to do is glaze it (see photo 2 at the link).  It will then be different, but will not "match" a floor.

  3. Wood for furniture usually comes in 2 grades, paint grade and stain grade.

My guess would be that if you bought this bed in white, it's the lower paint grade and wouldn't look as nice if you tried to sand and stain it later.

If you love the white now, buy it and you can always paint it another color later.  Or you could even faux finish it to look like woodgrain.  I wouldn't recommend buying the stained furniture and painting it - that's just a waste of good wood!

  4. the bed is nice! But if you wish to change the colour of it later on you will need to give it a light sanding first, then give  it a coat of prime and paint it any colour that you wish. When you asked  about the Staining, if the bed is real wood you could stripped down to the original wood colour and with a lot of sanding and polishing you can later re stain it to a wood colour or shade that you wish , from what I see on the picture and from your question ,personally I would buy an unfinished bed and when you move into your new house paint it or stain it  then.
