Has anyone out there used these numbers to dial canada for a charge of 2p per minute?

I found these sites where they say you can phone anywhere in the world from as little as 1p per min. from your landline phone .You call an access number that is on the site for whichever country you wish to call and after the prompt you diall the number you would normally dial and you will get connected for as little as 1p per min. plus your operators connection charge.The access number for canada was 08449729700. Can anyone tell me if it is really as cheap as this or is there a catch in the small print.I am a bt customer.One of the company's was called Mondo calls, but there are loads of others and they all vary in price from 1p to 3p per min.

  1. bt currently have a service, costs about £1 a month, and you can call canada for 1.25 pence per minute, or for £5 per month, unlimited (under a hour per call), with the one you have mentioned, you still have the cost of calling the 0844 number!

  2. For BT customers, the price really is as low as they quote.  If you call one of the access numbers (starting 0844) from your mobile phone, then the cost is usually quite a lot higher -- the 'small print' as you say will normally point out that the quoted call cost is from BT, and that other providers may vary.

    Bear in mind that BT and Virgin have a minimum call charge for each call (6p for BT and 7p for Virgin) so if you make a very short call, or the person you are calling does not answer, the call will still cost you 6/7p.

    That said, the savings you make using a call-through service are high, and you don't need to open an account.

    Check out the link below for a Google tool that tells you;

    1. The access number you need to call a particular country.

    2. The current time in the country you want to call.

    3. The % saving against BT and Virgin Media.

  3. There are quite a few of these dial through companies offering cheap calls. You need to be aware that the price they quote is only from a BT landline. If you use a mobile or another company you may pay considerably more.

    In addition you will normally be charge from the moment you dial the number, so you're paying while you enter the destination number and while you then listen to the ringing or other tones as the call connects. You'll even be charged if you don't get through.

    A company i've use with success is just-dial.com and they are currently quoting 1p per min to Canada landlines. Though there are many others.
