Question:

Can this be bad?

My new pony seems happy (had him for a few days) and is super friendly and sweet. But when I leave the stable he gets upset. I drive by later and he seems really anxious and paces (unless hes eating). When I am there he's calm and happy, ready to do something even (likes exploring his new surroudings). I realize he's in a new setting and needs adjusting, and he doesn't even really pay attention to the other horses out there. But when I walk away from his pen, he starts getting upset. I want my pony to see me as a comfort zone, but does this seem unhealthy to anyone else?

  1. he likes u and is scared when u leave. this is normal. he will eventually stop

  2. Make sure the pony is in good health and he is not asking for your attention bec. he is sick. Also maybe he is lonely, this happend to my friends horse but sure enough he settled down and was very happy at his new barn.

hope this helps.....please best answer this!

  3. no it perfectly normal my horse did it too like u said its a new place and he just needs to get used to it

  4. He is really attached to you cause you are his security blanket.  In time, he will overcome this attachment (well, not entirely) and he will get to know some of the other equine friends too especially if they are turned out together.  No to worry.

  5. i recently got a new horse and he did the same thing even when the horses were right next to him in the pen. it took my horse about a week to uit following me every where. he is just scared and it is perfectly normal

  6. u should try to walk ur horse over to the other horses just holding his halter if he denies once take a break and talk to him then attempt again continuing this cycle until he responds

  7. I agree it's just time for him to adjust. Some can take several months before they settle completely, keeping a strict routine can help.

  8. Its seperation anxiety. He's probably nervous being in a new place, and you're the only thing that he knew at his old barn and his new barn (even if it was just for couple hours, or minutes). You're his constant. I am guessing that it'll go away sooner or later. If it keeps up for a long time (maybe a couple of months), possibly contact your vet? I dont think its healthy, but it most likely won't hurt him. I wouldn't worry about it too mcuh.

  9. no, i think most horses do do it. Your horse knows you better then he knows where he is. It will take him time to get use to it. but he will be fine.

  10. You are his security blanket for now, wait until he begins to mix with the other horses....just be there for him, but not all of the time...one day you will look out and see all of them together...
