Can this be considered stealing?

I work as a techie at my school campus.

Today, I was walking by when I saw this girl complaining about a broken Vending machine.

Soda costs 1.25

The machine took the dollar

But is not accepting the .25 coin. (this happens sometimes.)

Told her to go to the bookstore and they will refund her dollar.

Thing is, I got .25 cents and im thirsty.

If I was to put the extra .25 in the machine and have myself a drink,

Does this constitute stealing?

  1. it's only taking a dollar from the big soda company, they have billions! they should give us free soda all the time!! I don't think there's anything morally wrong with it.

  2. Actually yes.

  3. How exactly would you use the .25 since it is not accepting the coin?  Unless you have .10, .10, and .05 and it happens to be accepting those...

  4. Yes.    You know you are gaining at the vendor's plight.  Your school system may own that machine and the funds from it support your sports or other activities.

  5. lol no you paid for it its yours!

  6. I wouldn't consider it stealing, but if you know the bookstore refunded the dollar you should pay up.

  7. No, morally you could give it to the bookstore, if you saw this happen, or give a quarter back to the girl in question, the next time you see her. Seeing how honest you are could lead to a long and happy friendship.

  8. No! Go have a soda!

  9. who cares its only a dollar
