Can this be fixed on my laptop computer?

I have a HP laptop computer with up-to-date anti-virus software. It has XP windows on it. About a month ago, I was reading a news clipping on Yahoo Entertainment when a window popped up saying that my computer has detected a serious problem and needs to shut down. It does not restart on its own. When you turn computer back on you will see a window stating that the computer was shutdown improperly and gives you the option of starting in safe mode etc... No matter which one you choose there is another window that pops up and states that the computer has detected a serious problem and needs to shut down. AGAIN. It will not let me back to the desktop with the icons, start button or anything. It doesn't even come to the log on screen. What happened? Is this a virus? computer crash? I didn't know so I went out and bought a new laptop but there are things on the old one that I would not like to lose such as pictures, stories, games, etc... Can anyone help me with this issue?

  1. You can Restore you computer to earlier date while you are in safe mode,Start>>Programs>>accessoried>>Syste... tools>>Restore,

or You can find a ethernet cable Cat5 (MUST BE a CrossWire not plain or straight)google cross wire cat 5 you know what I meand,

then connect two computer via this wire  together  now you can see one in the other open files and drag the pictures to your new laptop.

be careful do not drag anything else if you think the old computer is infected ,you can run antivirus scan on it ,and be sure.

  2. It is not computer crash. it is a kind of spy ware virus and your up to date anti-virus software didn't know it as a virus. You'd better use another anti-spy software like "Ad-Aware" which can be download free(Basic) to clean them. If the problem is still going on, you'd better backup your data in external drive. If I were you I will back up important data to an external drive and will reinstall the XP again.

  3. I have the same problem, except I had to unplug it.(stormy weather...)and I come to all options leading to blue screen which seems to restart my computer automatically.HELP!!!

  4. It sounds like a computer crash to me, which could be caused by any number of things. Worst case scenario is a complete mechanical hard drive failure and you have lost your data. In my experience, it is more likely that you have a file error and windows isn't loading correctly. You could try to repair by booting to the Windows CD and running a repair, this can be time consuming and you could inadvertently format if don't know what you are doing. What I recommend is to purchase an external USB drive enclosure, the beauty of these is that you can often retrieve data from a failing hard drive that would overheat by the time it loaded Windows. Pop your hard drive out of your old laptop and and into the enclosure and then plug it into your new laptops USB port. Then navigate to the drive where your files would be under\\drive letter\documents and settings\profile\my documents(for Windows XP). If it is an older laptop, you probably have a 2.5" IDE drive, if it is a newer laptop, it could be SATA. Get in touch with a computer parts supply store like NCIX.com and see if they can hook you up, they usually run at around $30. If your drive has not completely failed, you can then format it and use it as extra storage or else put it back in the old laptop, install a fresh copy of Windows and give it to your kids or your favorite charity. Good luck!!
