In the care instructions it says halogen bulb e26 max 150w. Can it only use halogen bulbs? Why is that? I thought lamps could use both.

  1. A halogen bulb doesn't s***w into a socket like a regular bulb. There are little prongs on each end of the socket that hold the tube-shaped bulb in place.

Halogen bulbs generate intense heat, much more so than a regular incandescent bulb. So, they don't make halogen bulbs with regular s***w-in bases, because the lamp has to be specially designed to dissipate the heat from the halogen bulb without getting damaged or causing a fire.

  2. If the base take a normal type s***w in bulb, I would say it would and I would use a CFL 26 or 30 watt.

I brought your Ikea site up and you have to use a halogen tube type bulb for this type lamp.
