Can you really get arthritis from cracking your knuckles?

Or is it just a myth?

  1. I've been cracking my knuckles for 40 years.  And my toes and ankles and elbows.  My joints are still just fine.

  2. It's a myth. The cracking and popping in your knuckles is from air being released in between the joints. Even though you may not get arthritis from doing this, it is known to have caused some deformation in the fingers. It's ok to do it every so often, but even though it may be a habit, you should try to limit it.

  3. It might not lead to arthritis but it can (and most likely will) lead to other bone and joint issues if you continue to crack them for years.
