  1. They will do no harm. Here is how it works. Each item has a bar code. And that bar code is assigned as paid or not paid. When items are scanned at the checkout they are digitally marked as paid for in full. When the shopping basket passes the digital security scanner at each exit, it reads those bar codes once more. If an item has not been scanned and marked as paid in full then an alarm will go off and security will check your purchases to make sure you have paid for them.These packaged specialty items have specilized bar codes that sometimes need to be neutralized or removed by store clerks in designated areas. Sometimes these clerks forget and that TV you just bought will let everyone know.
