I began a new tank of 55 gallons 2 months ago. I now have 3 angelfish in that tank, they are fully grown (I bought them from my friend when they were fully grown.) Could a bala shark that is 5 inches go with the three angelfish? I know they can grow really big, but I would trade it in to the store by the time it got 5 inches. (It's 2.5 inches right now.) Could a 10 inch long bala shark go with three fully grown angelfish? And my last question, is could two red-tail sharks go with 3 fully grown angelfish? As much info as possible, thanks!!

  1. im satisfied with only two points for answering..

    thank you :)

  2. The bala shark could go with the angel fish the only thing i would watch is if the angels act agressivaly toward the shark , same with the red tails . Angel fish can sometimes be a bit nasty toward other fish , i had a 55 gal tank too and we had one angel that would just attack the other fish for no reason . I know that they are a ciclid and some of that species can be difficult to place other fish with.I would try it and see if all goes well. it it does then you have a good start on a decent community in your tank . good luck it takes alot of work to put together a good tank that size but its so worth it .

  3. ...the 2.5" bala will not be happy with the angels

....angels, however are aggressive and bully

...(yes, balas grow up to 10" to 12"), but for the time, the 55 gal is perfectly enough space for it

....balas prefer peaceful gentle surroundings, with plenty of food

....balas will eat other small fish if hungry...but are usually reclusive, serene and enjoy a planted surrounding (if well fed)

...two red-tails also will fit nicely in the 55 gal, with 3 angels

....better as a single, or in groups of 3 though

....the red-tails together, will find their territory and will not be bullied by angels, based on their nature and natural abilities as swimmers

...2 red-tails can spell trouble for any others if the territory is not respected well

....sounds like a really interesting tank you will have soon
