  2. Type 1 diabetes can't be cured by any method on the planet. It involves the selective death of what are called beta cells in your pancreas. To cure it, these cells would have to be replaced, and there's no mechanism for your body to do this. Many tissues have stem cells in line to replace old and damaged cells, but this is not the case for beta cells. There are attempts to use 'universal' stem cells to grow new beta cells, but this has met with failure. The immune system simply attacks and kills them. There are efforts underway to develop an 'artificial pancreas' - a machine like an insulin pump that could monitor and adjust your blood sugar in real time, but this is probably a decade or so off.

    Type 2 Diabetes is a result of body weight, usually. The fat in your body acts to reduce the action of insulin beyond the threshold needed to maintain health levels of blood sugar. Type 2's progression can be slowed and reversed by weight loss, but again that's not really a cure.
