Question:

Can ticks vomit?

I got into a big discussion with a few friends recently. It wasn't a very serious one, but needless to say one of the things that came up was ticks- the little bugs in tall grass and stuff.

Anyway, my one buddy (an Eagle scout) claims that ticks can vomit onto your skin and in doing so transmit diseases like Lyme disease. This sounds absolutely ridiculous to me, but honestly, I don't know the answer. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this?

  1. YES - Vomit may not be completely accurate in regards to ticks but is definitely conveys the point that making the tick spasm or squeezing it  will inject you with its saliva and stomach contents (bacteria included).

Do not apply chemicals or burn the tick with a match head etc.  You will cause the tick to spasm and "Vomit" into your bloodstream dramitically increasing the infection.

The best tick removal tool is a tick slider (Pro Tick Remedy). With proper use this tool removes ticks easily without the possibility of squeezing them.

  2. whenever i hear about lyme disease i never hear anything about ticks having anything to do with it. I don't think they vomit.

  3. Actually they don't vomit, they ejaculate on you.

  4. I just looked this up today. Yes, when you pull the tick off your skin, you're squeezing it, which makes it regurgitate into your body. This can cause lyme disease.
