Question:

Can tomatoes ever be TOO sweet?

I posted a question previously and it was suggested that I put my homegrown tomatoes in a paper bag with a banana. I followed the advise, my tomatoes are soooo sweet that I am wondering if I left them too long in the bag with the banana. For how long do I do this? FYI I don't take the tomatoes off the vine unless they are a nice red color, however still very firm to the touch. Thanks again everyone, your advise is very much appreciated. As you surely can tell, I am a first time tomato grower!

  1. Congratulations on your first tomatoes!

Too sweet? I think so, but it's probably a matter of taste, and probably attributable to the variety, unless they're mushy as well, which is no good at all.  I don't like some of the little cherries that seem to lack the complexity of others.

You shouldn't need a banana with its ethylene gas to ripen home grown tomatoes. Just pick yjem and eat them the same day. They're more nutritious that way.
