    The Bottom Line

Fasten your seat belts and keep your eyes and ears open. You just may hear the sounds of a loud dance number being performed or better yet, catch a glimpse of a real Bollywood celebrity at their workplace. The Film City tour in Mumbai takes you on a 2 hour journey through the shooting locations of many Bollywood flicks.

Bit of an informal setting may allow you to see a Bollywood star

    Ample food and dining available

Located on the outskirts of the city by the National Park

    Cons

Some sets are blocked off if shooting is ongoing

Unlike theme parks you may be used to, the tour only takes around 2-3 hrs

    Description

Cost: About $74 but it's worth it!

Directions: By Suburban Rail, take the Churchgate line to the Goregaon station. By taxi, ask for National Park/Film City

Guide Review - Bollywood Studio Tour

    The Experience

Outdoor sets: Your Bollywood stuidio guide will drive the tram through extragavant gardens, a mock railway station, hollow apartment facades, and a miniature Indian village set against the backdrop of the green hills of the National Park.

Indoor sets: You will also walk through various interiors including a hospital, a mansion, corporate office, and more used in the filming of actual Bollywood films.

Hot sets: Shooting of feature films and soap operas is constantly ongoing so expect walk within a few feet of more than one 'live' set where you can hear the director shouting commands in Hindi and English. And if the gathered crew shuffle around just a bit, you'll see the Bollywood starlets in action. If they're on break, they don't hesitate to hobnob with the tourists. You gotta love some of the informalities of India.

    Dining

Where to eat: You can dine at one of the 5 eateries contained within the complex where you will be sitting next to those 'in the biz'.

Menu options: Indian and Western fast food such as sandwiches and pizza.

    Quick Summary

Lowdown: Although the 2 hours fly by quickly, you really get closer to the action than some of the American studio tours allow. It's a great atmosphere because you get an idea of the volume of film and television projects being churned out of the Bollywood studios of India.

    Bonus Stars' Homes Tour:

The bonus of the tour is that you are taken outside of the complex and given a short tour of some of the stars' homes nearby. For around $20 transport is also provided to and from your hotel, but a taxi is usually cheaper.
