  1. It is wrong to say that everything has the potential to die of old age. There are two types of death: 1) Programed cell death, and 2) death caused by a catastrophy.
    Dying of old age fits under the first case where it is programed in our DNA to deteriorate with time and eventually die (this is to rid the population of bad, damaged, DNA). Dying from radiation, fire, lack of nutrients or insect attack (and even the sun exploding) etc is fits under the second type of death.

    Bacteria doesn't die from old age but almost all multicellular organisms (with a few exceptions) are programed to die.
