  1. the simple answer is yes they can. Some advise against it though. Just be careful and keep a good eye on them if for any reason you have to. It would probably be better for them to be seperated though. Use your best judgement

  2. Can they?  Yes. Should they? NO!  Co-habitation is NOT a good idea.  Here are just a few of the reasons:

Stress: snakes do not live together in the wild and it creates stress when you put two together.  Stress can lead to failure to thrive, health issues and failure to eat.

Disease spread:  Any disease one gets, you can just about guarantee the other one will too.  Get ready for double the vet bills.

Cannabilism: While this is rare in cornsnakes, it has been documented and most often it is young snakes that do it.

Accidental breeding: If you happen to put a male and female in there, once the male decides he wants to breed-he'll breed. It won't matter if the female is too young, too small or unable to handle the burden of carrying eggs. You risk killing her by egg binding or depletion of calcium. This happens with alarming frequency and the owner always says they didn't know that one was a girl.

Fighting among males: If two males are together there is a good chance that they will fight once they reach sexual maturity.

STRESS:  Can't say enough about this!

Regurgitation: If one regurgitates, you won't know which did it unless you saw it.  How will you know which one to treat?

There is absolutely no good reason to co-habitate except to benefit the owner of the snakes. If you can't afford two cages or don't have the room, use plastic tubs and stack them if you have to. DON'T put two together!

I keep over 50 snakes including newly hatched babies, and not one animal is co-habitated. If you care about the health of your snakes, you will keep them in separate cages.
