If the white gene is recessive, isn't it possible for it to pop back up randomly in the family eventually, if somewhere in the line there was a white person or two?

  1. um, no cos theres more than 2 genes controlling skin colour, i think theres around 6, so AABBCC would be very dark skin, where aabbcc would be really pale skin, so 2 people who are say AABBCC would never have a lighter coloured kid, cos all the alleles they carry are dominant, however, if two people of AaBbCc mated, they could get a combination of colours, because of independent assortment and stuff.

  2. i think so, al-bi-nos   (dont know how to spell it)

  3. Yes, if there was a white person back somewhere in the line.

  4. You can have white somewhere in your ancestry, and then it can come out in the birth of a child generations later. I've seen it happen with a friend's baby; however in this case the child still had "black" facial features. Doctors said the baby wasn't albino though.

  5. If we are talking of US blacks then almost certainly they will have caucasian genes in their DNA - and given a man and woman with the same recessive gene a lighter skinned child could be produced, but not in the sense of two African-Americans producing a blonde, blue eyed baby.

  6. Yes, I've heard that not only in the genes, but also if there's a lack of iron in the body this will also cause the skin color to appear lighter. If you look at the whole history of humans, all human species from thousands of years ago were originally from Africa. When some had migrated north & east, the skin color changed. So it would be logical to think if something had changed our skin color to change back then, it can still occur even today. We might be technological advanced, yet we still don't know all the mysteries of the human body.

  7. Yes, Tina... if two black adults both carry the recessive genes for light skin color they definitely can have a white baby -- I have seen it happen myself!
