  1. First of all it's Shih Tzu (pronounced: Sheed zoo). Typically when breeding the female comes to the home of the male dog and you are responsible for the breeding. I'm guessing you opted for the pick of the litter type of deal and not a stud fee. The stud fee would usually be paid after the services were met. Is you male a proven stud? Has he without a doubt successfully bred before? Any color variation can come from any two shih tzu's. Shih tzu's can change colors as they grow into adults especially brindle's!

I would say if you don't know if your shih tzu actually bred the female it's kinda your fault for letting yourself get screwed. But it is unacceptable for this breeder to use your stud and her own. First of all she can not legally register them (AKC), it's not professional and she should know that each dog could have fathered a pup or two. If both studs bred successfully with the female the both have pups.

  2. Yes you can mate two colored dogs and come out with puppies of a completely different color.

It works the same way with Labrador retrievers.

It all depends on the genetics passed down from other generations in their blood line. Just because they are both white doesn't mean both of their parents where white.

Since the mating resulted in a black puppy, somewhere along the blood lines there were black fur traits and these were inherited by the puppy.
