Can u Damage a Dogs Sense of Smell?

i put a nail polish remover bottle by his nose a couple times and he goes crazy everytime cuz its such a strong smell.

is it possible to damage a dogs sense of smell by doing this cuz its funny

I've heard that if you have a hunting dog, not to let him sleep on a bed made with cedar chips as a filler because it will ruin his sense of smell.
