  1. Yes, if they choose to allow you to do so.  But you need to understand that even if you are this person's adoptive parent, they are still legally an adult and you cannot control their behavior or tell them what to do.

  2. Yes.

There was an adult adoption in my community recently.  A young woman who was in her 20s or even 30 never really had a family.  There was an older couple at her church that knew this and invited her to spend the holidays with their family instead of being lonely.  the friendship grew into sort of a parent child and they decided they wanted to officially make her a part of their family so she had a real family.   And they legally adopted her.

  3. no they are legaly an adult not a child

  4. nope

  5. Maybe not, but you can make'em a slave.

  6. Why not? 19 years old is still teenager.

  7. Yes.  As long as all parties are in favor of the adoption there is no reason a judge will not allow it.  And bravo for taking an older child into your lives.

  8. no

  9. Yes. An adult can be legally adopted by one or two people, which makes them a legal heir to whatever estate their adoptive parents might have. My step-uncle wants to be legally adopted by my grandfather (his mum is gramp's second wife) even though he's 35.

  10. Yes you can. But remeber if you do that person is entitled to everything you own at your death so if it involves other children and an inheritance you might want to think it over and get a good lawyer and will to protect your kids and your self. If you get sick they can get power of attorney and have control of your life & money!

  11. You can so that they can have your last name but you need the real mother or father to say that it is okay and then fill out alot of papers.

  12. no, because they are considered a legal adult at that age. You can marry them though.

  13. Not legally, because they are over 18. If the 19 year old wants to be adopted, then why not.

  14. Does this person have someone who is willing to be next to kin for the rest of their life? Does this person want to be adopted? It all depends. I know people that don't have any parents and want to belong to someone on their death certificate and if someone would adopt then they would do it. This person is almost 50.

  15. I'm pretty sure you can

  16. Check your state's adoption laws. My state, Alabama, allows for it under certain circumstances. Look at provision 2D specifically

The following persons may be adopted:

    (1) A minor.

    (2) An adult under any one of the following conditions:

    a. He or she is totally and permanently disabled.

    b. He or she is determined to be mentally retarded.

    c. He or she consents in writing to be adopted and is related in any degree of kinship, as defined by the intestacy laws of Alabama, or is a stepchild by marriage.

    d. He or she consents in writing to be adopted by an adult man and woman who are husband and wife.

  17. Actually, I was 19 when I was legally adopted by my step-mother.  It was more symbolic than anything (since I was legally an adult) but yes, you can.  It's actually quite a simple process and we handled it ourselves - without the aid of an attorney.

  18. i dont think so. after the person turns 18, i dont think he/she can be adopted anymore

  19. yes you can!  Im 26, married and getting ready to finalize my adoption with my adoptive parents!  You obviously need the the 19yr olds consent, and its a much simpler process than adopting a minor.    Congrats
