Can u change steering on 87 kawjetski to turn the way you steer?

would like to change the steering to turn right when i turn handlebars right now when i turn right i go left it has aftermarket handlebars

I f you look at the underside  of the handlepole there is a plate that the steering cable hooks to.  It sounds to me like they put it in upside down when they put the new bars on.  The cable should attach on the left side of the plate.
