  1. no, once social security is laminated is no longer valid,

  2. The previous answer is nonsense.  There is NO prohibition on laminating a Social Security card.  It's perfectly legal, and the card remains valid.

If you want to do it, the easiest and cheapest way is to go to an office supply store (like Staples, Office Max, Office Depot, etc.) and buy some self-laminating sheets.  Basically, these are plastic sheets, with one smooth side and one sticky side.  Just put the card on the sticky side, press down, and then use a scissors to trim.

But think about whether you really need to laminate your Social Security card at all.  Most people carry it in their wallets all the time, but how often do you have to show it?  Usually, you only need to have the actual card when you get hired for a job.  Otherwise, you just need to have the number (which you ought to memorize anyway).  I keep my Social Security card in a safe place at home, and I only take it out when I have to.

    Good luck!!

  3. You can buy the Scotch Self-Sealing Laminating Sheets at Wal-Mart.

  4. I am not going to add much because another person did a great job answering.  If you really want it laminated then just about any office store can help you.  I have used my social security card often for jobs, id's, travel.  Mine is falling apart and I wish I would of had it laminated.  Not only have I used it often but I have washed it a few times too, which really doesn't help the fact that it is falling apart.

    =)

  5. It is  illegal to laminate a social security card it says so right on the card and in the envelope it comes in.
