theres this nice car/project that i want to pick up, and was wondering if the car would even work if it spun a rod bearing. the seller states that "It was running before the Throttle Body was removed. Brand new full set of ground effects plastics goes with it. The original and a new larger TB goes with it. Needs wheels and tires. Over revved, spun a rod bearing, other than that, Mechanically sound."

another question: will this engine need a complete rebuild?

  1. you probably wont need to rebuild it but you will need to re do the bottom end, take off the pan, and the main caps, check all the bearings and put in new one and then hope your crankshaft isnt torn apart, sometimes it can be reground but usually it cant when that kinda damage was done to it

  2. everything else should be ok but youll deffentely have to change the crankshaft or at least have it reworked from the machine shop and the bearings

  3. The correct is the entire engine should be taken apart. The block should be hot tanked to remove any metal particles that dislodged from the bearing, connecting rods and crankshaft. The crank should be checked with a micrometer and a decision must be made if it should be ground undersized or the marks may be able to be polished out. This must me done by a qualified engine re-building shop. The spun bearing - connecting rod may need replaced or at least re-sized and honed with new rod bolts installed. Careful re-assembly with fresh Fel-Pro gaskets is a must.

  4. yes maybe it will run a for a while miles but really only doing more damage and yes it will need a lot of work  engine need a complete rebuild

  5. yes you can, but not for very long. as for how long, that is hard to say. i have seen some run for several miles, and others break with in a few feet.

  6. That engine needs a complete rebuild , it would be cheaper to get a rebuilt engine or one out of the junkyard.
