  1. Ancitent egyptians used the caste system, meaning that you were born into your social class and nothing you could do could change that.  If you were born into poverty you would learn a trade starting at a young age, if you were born into the middle class you would go to school and learn to read so you could be a lawyer or a scribe, of course if you were born into a rich family you would take over your fathers spot in whatever he did or be one the Pharoah's leaders, to include military, political, or other head of state position.

Modern India has this type of system as well, but it is a bit more complicated now as many of them leave the country and get educated in other countries such as England, China and the United States.

Anciet Egypt WAS a Caste System, what the guy below states is a caste system, you are born into what you will do for the rest of your life.  Very few people were able to escape their names.  Even the website he gives you states this.

  2. Basically, you have

    Gods> King (who is semi-devine)> Royal Family> Nobles> Merchants & Craftsmen> Peasants/Farmers> Others & Slaves.

There was not a caste system like India; though there was a rigid hierarchy, as with any other "Civilization", much like that of Feudal Europe and China.
