  1. Capri is full of rubbish, I advice you to not go there. It's very dirty! Advice from an Italian Boy!!

  2. No, it's not too far from Rome. I live in northern Italy and have done a day trip to Capri from Verona (not recommended, but possible using the night trains).

Your best bet is to take an early train from Rome to Naples. You can check all the schedules and prices at: http://www.ferroviedellostato.it/ferrovi... There's a train at 5:01 am from the Tiburtina station that gets you to Naples at 8:10 or a train from Roma Termini at 4:52 am that gets you to Naples at 7:57, but you have to change trains in Formia. There's also a direct train from Roma Termini at 5:50 that gets to Naples at 8:36. An even better option is the Eurostar that leaves Roma Termini at 6:45 am and gets to Naples at 8:38 am. the difference is the price 27.60 euro 2nd class vs 10.50 euro for the earlier, but slower, regional train.

From the Naples station, take a cab to Molo Beverello to catch a ferry to Capri. The ferry schedules are here: http://www.capri.net/en/ship-timetable.

Capri is a great destination. You'll have a good time. It can be pretty crowded though. The last ferry back to Naples is at 7:50 or 7:55 pm depending on the day. http://www.capri.net/en/ship-timetable

You can use the train website to check schedules back to Rome. There are trains as late as around 11:30 leaving Naples.

You might consider staying on Capri overnight and taking an early ferry/train back to Rome. The first ferry leaves Capri for Naples at 5:45 am.
