  1. nope...the government only lets citizen's of cuba leave if they qualify for a visitor visa. Sometimes even that is difficult. One of my relatives tried to come to the US but the government wouldn't allow it because he was a doctor and they needed him. Most of my family came from cuba with visas and never went back.

  2. Yes - the average Cuban can leave Cuba - if a) they can get a visitors visas to go where they want to, b) they (or someone else) can pay for it, c) someone invites them, formally and d) the Cuban government gives them permission to leave.

It's a more complicated process but for most Cubans, the first step (which is nothing to do with the Cuban government) is the problem. Countries in Europe, and Canada are reluctant to give visas to Cubans because their fear they will stay. Even the US only gives limited visas.

But yes, Cubans can travel. My wife is Cuban and she has been to England, Tenerife and the US. One of her friends lived in Vancouver for a while. Another Cuban friend of mine phoned me from Oslo yesterday.

  3. You need special permission from the government, the average Cuban is a poor lot. He's stuck in a country that won't allow him to better himself. His best hope is to marry a Canadian or Brit who comes on vacation. The Castro brothers want to keep the average Cuban under their shoe so they can continually rape them economically with the help of Canadian and British tourists.

  4. i dont know for sure, but with my background knowledge of cuba being a comunist regime i would have to guess that the answer to your question would be no.  Cuban citizens really dont have a choice in what they can do, so travelling is not an option for them unless they are expelled out of the country

  5. pretty sure they can't...

I know for a fact that a citizen from another country cannot leave Cuba if they don't pay. So, if you are somehow out of money.... like it get stolen.. or you only have debit and the machiene doesn't work.... your stuck in Cuba. Ridiculous but true.

  6. So to answer your question, it would be YES. Everyone has been saying that a Cuban citizen CANNOT leave Cuba unless this or that. So then that would mean they can.

Many Cubans leave to visit relatives or friends living in other countries, education, for their work, medical purposes, etc. Cubans are given special permission to go.

I know this for a fact because of personally knowing those who have done so (and continue to do so).

If a Cuban re-enters Cuba, they must come back through certain airports or they would have to pay a 'fine'. For example, when I arrived at one airport in Cuba, a customs official thought I was Cuban and had to double check my passport to make sure I was telling the truth because, as I learned later, that as a Cuban you were not supposed to come through that specific airport.

So Cubans travel back and forth and ARE allowed to do so.

They can also leave if they choose to marry a non-Cuban but will not necessarily guarantee that they can leave the country right away. Sometimes it can take up to 10 months for the paperwork to be done (as is similar to other countries, socialist or not). Getting a visa takes time and money but is possible.

Here is a quote from a link below:

    "INVITATION

A Cuban citizen who wants to travel abroad needs an official invitation from a person or institution outside Cuba. This letter of invitation is an official document delivered by a Cuban notary. The document mentions the identity of the person who invites the Cuban and the identity of the Cuban citizen who is invited. The “ inviter” declares that he /she will take full responsibility for the Cuban and agrees to pay the total costs of the invitation including travel costs, hotel or housing costs, medical insurance etc.

The letter of invitation is valid for one year starting from the issue date on the document. The cost of this document in Havana is 140 CUC, with special request form available at the Cuban embassies: costs about 200 US dollar – 200 euro.

In order to receive permission to leave the country, the Cuban citizen has to go to the Cuban Migration Services to apply for a travel permit (vigencia de viaje) and a Passport. Before departure the Cuban has to apply for a visa, which will be stuck in the Passport and has a validity period of 30 days. An extension of up to 90 days is possible."

Therefore, a Cuban citizen can go outside of Cuba.

    Hope that helps.
