  1. It seems Joropo is the only indigenous dance of Venezuela, all the others, Merengue, Salsa, etc, are imported.

I may be wrong, though, but that's what it seems.

  2. Joropo the only Venezuelan dance? NO!!! My beautiful country has so many beautiful typical dances! Every region in Venezuela has their own indigenous dance. El Sebucan is the dance that is danced around a pole with ribbons, this is danced in the east of the country. That is just one cause there are so many I do not know the name of them all. There are Gaitas that is the typical music that is danced in the Llanos of Venezuela. There is also Tambores which is the dance that is danced with tons of different drums and comes from African influence. The venezuelan polka is a hall dance that has its origin in Europe at the beginning of the XIX century and arrives to Venezuela in the middle of that century. Salsa and Merengue are "newer" dances that have appeared in the last 100 years, but our indegenous dances have been danced since the beginning of time, even before Venezuela was an actual country or was even colonized by anything other then their indigenous people!!! Check out the info on Wikipedia. It might actually help a little with regions and names! Good Luck!
