There is some custom firmware out there, but it is very limited in functionality. As new games come out, they only play on updated firmware. I kept up with it for a while but finally gave up. I like playing my PS3 games without worrying about anything. The PSP is a constant upgrade battle to stay up to date with the latest custom firmware. Check out this site for more information. No. Sony has eliminated any chance of getting custom firmware. Even attempting could result in your PS3 crashing but I believe there are people who are able to do this
