  1. Usually not. Most LTD plans coordinate with other sources of income..ie., social security, workers comp, sick leave, etc. Plus, many will only cover off the job accidents in addition to illness.

  2. Alot of these types of policies dont cover you while your at work... Due to workers compensation.    Get ahold of your agent and ask... Depends on the policy and company.

  3. Not in Colorado.

  4. Maybe, sort of, and it depends.

See, long term disability  (LTD) has a waiting period, before it kicks in - usually six month for a private policy, or longer, and 2 years for SSDI.  Workers comp, in some states, limits the length of time you can collect - two or three years.

So, IF there's an overlap, AND you meet the disability definition in the LTD policy, it will pay, BUT, it's then allowed to attach your workers comp benefits for reimbursement, for time when you are collecting both.

Bottom line:  YOU cannot collect the same lost wage, from two different sources.

  5. Possibly if you are getting perm impairment benefits on work comp, however the work comp carrier could take a credit for any long term disability payments made to you.
