  1. yes

  2. simplify when adding/subtracting - not until you get the sum or the difference

they must have the same denominator to + and -

THEN - you can simply when finished

    all the best

  3. They can; there are two cases in which this can be done, and this example covers both of them:

    3/6+1/2

notice that you can reduce 3/6 to one half before you add the fractions; this is the first case. The second follows:

    3/6+1/2=1/2+1/2=2/2

This second case is when the answer to the addition can be simplified; notice that 2/2 can be simplified to 1. I hope this helps :)

  4. 20/40 - 10/40 = 10/40

    10/40 = 1/4

    does that help?

  5. You need to get a common denominator. You can simplify before you solve the problem but the denominators need to match.

  6. yea if its reduace able such 2/4 it reduces to 1/2 and if its a improper fraction such as 4/2 then it would 2/1 some teachers dont really care and they let you leave it as a improper frac.

  7. Sometimes.

  8. you can only add fractions if the denominator[bottom #] is the same in all the factions to be added. then you add up the numerators[top#]. once you have done that you can simplify your answer. subtraction uses the same process.

  9. you can if the fraction can be simplified.
