I went to the muffler shop with a "carbon fiber" muffler and they said it would not stay because it would just melt the fiber away, is this true?

  1. No, they do not solder on. A muffler is welded on, there is a large difference between soldering and welding.

Carbon Fiber is basically the same as graphite (pencil lead), but the molecules are structured much closer together, which makes it stronger. And no, it is not glass. What that person said was referring to Fiberglass, which is basically strands of glass woven together. I'd suggest looking on wikipedia for information about Carbon Fiber to gain a better understanding of what it is.

There has to be some steel, aluminum, or other alloy metal on the muffler's end pipe for a shop to attach it to a car. Otherwise, it will simply melt.

  2. ya it is just glass
