  2. Step by step? You have the right-triangle diagram, with angles labeled in lower case letters and sides labeled in upper case letters. You have the equations. What else is there to do put plug and chug?

    Step-by-step: Angle a = 55 degrees is opposite side A. OPPOSITE SIDE divided by HYPOTENEUSE is the SINE of the angle a. Since H = 22 m, then A/22 = sin 55. Or A = 22 sin 55. My calculator says that A is about 18.021 m.

You can find B either by the Pythagorean Theorem: H² = A² + B² plugging in values of A=18.021 and H=22 and solving for B, or by using ADJACENT SIDE divided by HYPOTENEUSE is CO-SINE of the angle a, B/22 = cos 55 or B = 22 cos 55. My calculator says that B is about 12.619.

You should be able to do the remaining problems the same way. Find the sin, cos, or tan equation that contains two given quantities and solve for a third. Then use the Pythagorean theorem, or another sin, cos, or tan equation, to find the fourth and fifth variables.

Note: there are at most two free variables in a right-triangle problem. Given any one side and either one of the two interior angles that is not the 90-degree angle, the other sides and the other interior angle can be determined. Or given any two sides, the other side and the two interior angles that are not the 90-degree angle can be determined. This is true only because you are working with right triangles.
