  1. Track involves sporting events you can do on a paved race track such as running a certain number of meters, running a relay race with your fellow team members, pole vaulting, jumping or yes- throwing stuff (smile). You don't have to do any certain events. You and your coach would determine where you would do best. It's usually based more on speed than cross country. Cross country isn't ran on a track. It is ran usually on dirt through fields, hills, around ponds etc and depends on endurance instead of quick bursts of speed. Friends I had in high school enjoyed both but the cross country team seemed a closer group because it could be so difficult and you really needed the support of your team Probably depends on whether you lean toward speed or endurance, solo or more team , a set course or a more natural setting. Best of luck to you.

  2. your talking about the field events, you don't have to do any of those.

track-run around the track shorter distances 100m-3200m

cross country-you run longer distance, like 5ks, 10ks and its on a course type thing

  3. track is running on a track, duh, and cross country is running on grass or gravel up and down hills.

athletics is track and field events to of coarse you have to throw things.

Go ahead and join, you will love it.

    Good Luck

  4. He's talking about the shot put, hammer, discus etc... no, you don't have to do that stuff.

  5. track= racing on a 400m track with races usually ranging from 100m to 3200m. (mainly in spring, improvised in winter).

cross country= racing a trail that can be on grass, pavement, dirt, uphill, downhill ranging from 3000m to 5000m in high school and 8000m in college and pros. (mainly in fall)

  6. I'll sum the two up for you with their definitions and what happens in them...

Cross country: About a 3 mile running race where you run on roads, grass, through woods, all different terrain. Generally in fall.

Track and Field: Many different lengths varying from sprints to 2 miles. There are also hurdles, high jump, long jump, pole vault, shot put, discus, javelin..There are also some relays. You choose your event(s).

Indoor: In winter. Generally smaller sized facility meaning more loops.

Outdoor: In spring. Generally 400 meters around. 4 laps for a mile.

  7. -cross country is runnin long distance..

dependin how old u r is how far it is

    -track is mostly bout speed

-& the throwin of things is called field & u dont have 2 do field...as in yes u can just run

i run in track but i dont do field but some of my friends do both..its watever u want..cuz they r both rely fun

unless u hate 2 run then its not so fun!

    good luck!

  8. throw stuff? i dont know about that but i do know you jump over hurdles.

track = running on a TRACK =short distances

cross country = running long distances

  9. Track is yes, sometimes running around the track. It depends what specific 'department' of track you are interested in. I think the throwing you may be referring to is the baton that you pass along to your teamates when racing. Cross Country is mainly long distance running, a lot of times uses a trail.

If you are better at running really fast for a short distance of time, I'd go with Track. If you are good at consistency and pacing yourself I'd say join Cross Country. Either way both are great sports, and a perfect way to get in good shape and stay healthy! :)

  10. track is running around a track, cross country is long distance running

  11. Track is basically running short distances, jumping hurdles, etc. So you should join track if your a good sprinter. Cross country is running long distance such as 4 miles in less than 30 minutes. If you want to joing cross country, you should be able to run a mile in less than 7 minutes and have a lot of endurance. Hope this helps!
