  1. those are the days gone when u have to carry travel checks these days its good idea to carry your debit/credit card with u its accepted all over india u can use them at any bank or most of the stores and there are some american banks like bank of america in big towns or any time u need more money for a long stay u did not mention how long money can be wired to u through money gram or western union just under 10 min u can receive money but always carry some cash with u some small places ,stores etc taxis only accept cash and have a good time there i think u will enjoy there.

  2. If you are staying in good hotel, most of them will convert your Travels check into local currency

1.Advantage: easiest way to get local currency,

Disadvantage: you conversion rate will slightly lower than  bank.( which is acceptable , because you will not be frequently converting).

2.Debit/Credit Card - somewhat safer,  but before using in India. make sure that your home country do not charge extra amount for the transaction made outside your home cou.

    ntry.

If they are charging extra, it will be costlier. then option 1

    HTH

  3. u can carry checks with u and I think u will have a debit card. U can use that on indian bank or ATM in india.

  4. In urban areas a debit card is better. In rural areas cash is best.If you open an account open one with SBI for wide network.

  5. Yes, u can.

Defenetly, for lengthy stay it's better to open an account..and u can deposit ur check to that account.
