Yes.  There is an assortment of "cheap" equipment.  But, keep this in mind.  Just like a guitar amp, if the "gain" or pre is able to be set higher than the output, more sound will be produced.  More distorted sounds come through, but a much broader spectrum of sounds associated with paranormal activity.  Do your research before you buy.  Many are just recorders that you can get at Walmart.

It's recommended that you use digital recording devices. It's supposed to record a higher quality of sound and you don't have to worry about malfunctions due to bad tapes or damaged tapes. I've heard it's also easier to use if you're going to use some sort of audio program to listen to it on your computer.

Go to windows movie maker on all programs, then open up the mic icon then show more options then click the first 1 then start recording.

Yes, however there is certain equipment that works better. Im not sure where you can buy it though.

Yes you can. And digital is not better quality. You capture less with digital.
