  1. yes just wait till you get in the air

  2. I'd like to know what flights these people have been on.  United Airlines currently does not have internet service.

I checked American Airlines web-site and this is what they said:

Coming Soon - American Airlines has completed the first aircraft installation of the Aircell® Internet broadband connectivity solution, Gogo. This will be available to you in the near future. Learn more.

    Hope this helps.

  3. Some aircraft have been fitted with internet access.  It is done only one way.  Seats in those aircraft (always 1st class) have an ethernet port in the armrest of the seat, that you have to plug into with an ethernet cable.  The signal is then routed out of the aircraft through an external antenna.  I do believe they charge for that.

No wireless functions are allowed on any US aircraft.  Violation of that rule will result in your being met by the cops when you land.

People using their laptops on board are almost always doing work, gaming, watching a DVD, or catching up on correspondence.  They're not online.

  4. If you have an air card [allows you to acces internet anywhere]

If you don't have one but want to get one they cost about $60 a month

  5. Very few airlines offer inflight Internet service yet and it's very rare on domestic flights. American Airlines is in the process of introducing a test program but only on certain transcontinental flights.

You can use a laptop onboard after the cabin crew announces that it's okay (usually when the aircraft is over 10,000 feet in altitude). However, you'll only be able to use what's on your laptop. There will be no Internet access.

  6. You will be told by the airline crew when you can and can't turn them on and off.  I flew yesterday.

  7. There have been some trials but i don't think anyone offers it yet.

You fly by cell towers so fast  they are no help at altitude.

    You need satellite.
