Can ulcerative colitis effect a mans sperm count?

  2. Ulcerative colitis does not directly affect a man's sperm count. However, the drug most commonly used to treat this disease (sulfasalazine) often does have the side effect of lowering a man's sperm count. This effect is reversible - when the man goes off the medication, his sperm count goes back up (but the colitis can reoccur).
