Can unhappy events in your life affect you (mentally and physically) more than you think they have?

yes . your bodies natural reaction is to block out pain , when its physical your brain releases chemicals that act as pain killers. when its emotional it is far more complicated but still the same principal and your brain will naturally shut out some of this emotional pain which can lead to problems later. You need to talk to a specialist so you can find out your true feelings.

They probably can, especially if you notice yourself avoiding certain people or situations that are like the unhappy event.  But sometimes this is taken to an extreme, and people, especially counselors may try to convince you that you're more affected by something that people are COMMONLY bothered about - whereas you might really be concerned about a more trivial-sounding matter. Only you know yourself the best.

Great question- unhappy events causes stress and stress can effect us both mentally and physically. You may not act like there is anything wrong from the exterior, However, your blood pressure is affected by it, your concentration and focus is affected by it also and when these things start to take affect they will show outwardly

Human body and mind -- both made for survival. Your mind can suppress any bad memory if you are not ready to address it. However, suppressing emotions can have a bad toll on your psyche system. If you feel like you have been suppressing to many unhappy events, maybe its time you start unraveling your emotions and working things out with yourself. Otherwise, all the anger and frustration will manifest themselves at a moment when you are most frustrated, and you'll just blow up!

I'm not sure. Both my parents died when I was in my 20's. I am in my 40's now and my husband says I never got over my Mom's death. I say I have, but he says not.
